Women empowerment project
The women-center (3D-project) in Janakiram Layout center is founded by Center of Social Action. 3D stands for development, desirable and development. The 3D projects empowers women in the slumps, educates them how to safe money and helps them with local and social issues. The women-center consists of different self-help groups that come together each week. The women invest a certain amount each week and they can check on their total savings. Apart from a functional purpose those meetings also fulfill a social purpose. The women empower each other and share personal experiences.
The project
One of the self-help groups is trying to set up their own business in Indian snacks. They love to cook Indian snacks and want to start selling these treats. Selling those snacks is important for them, in order to be more independent money wise. The business would also give them a purpose and satisfaction next to their daily activities. They do not have a lot of opportunities and setting up this business will mean that they can earn money to change the opportunities for their future generations. They face several issues in the process of setting up their own business. They do know have any commercial knowledge whatsoever; e.g. they don’t know how to package their snacks or how to design a label.

The project of Sophia is about creating a brand for the women and teaching them how to pack their Indian Snacks. Her research is about what activities need to be undertaken for the self-help group in order to make them able to sell their Indian pastries in a sustainable way. She will help them with their marketing, their strategy and the packaging. Their products will be sold at Christ University. The main goal after she leaves is that the women of the center will be able to facilitate their Indian snacks without any help.
