Parivarthana - waste management unit
Christ University is known to responsibly recycle their waste at the waste management unit, where they collect and sort their waste. The waste is being used for sales, making compost bio-gas and the main focus is recycling paper waste into new products.
The recycled paper products are being sold by “Parivarthana” which is the official business name of the waste management unit. Parivarthana is a part of CSA, Centre of Social Action which is part of Christ University.
There are 22 people working at the waste management unit; 1 supervisor, 1 manager and 20 hand workers who are mostly women from the slums.
The current collection of Parivarthana are desk accessories (photo frames, photo albums, and penholders), files (paper files/clipboard), bags and personal items (diary, jewellery box). Most of the products are office supplies or desk products. They are all made of recycled products and are eco-friendly. The products are sold at the Parivarthana office that is located in an outer corner on the campus. Once a month a kiosk is being placed to sell products at Christ University. The main target group Parivarthana sells their products to students and the staff.
Last batch industrial product engineers worked on a project to design new products. A reserach was conducted and the end result where 6 new products. There is still a lot of work to do on the product designs, the marketing, production and branding of the company.
