What to bring?
Before you leave to India it might be convenient to know what you should take with you. Let’s start off with a little list, and after that a little explanation why.
- Medicines
- Mosquito net
- Deet (mosquito spray)
- First aid kit
- GGD vaccination book
- Declaration from your insurance company (international
insurance)
First off, if you have anything like ADHD, Eczema or anything else you get medicines for in your native country, bring those medicines! In India some medications are prohibited, and others are hard to get since you need a doctors declaration in order to get them here. So to avoid any problem, please bring them to avoid trouble with the hospitals or pharmacies.
Also bring your GGD vaccination book. It comes in handy the small change occurs that you catch one of the diseases you are warned about. In this case the doctor can easily check what diseases you have been vaccinated for. Also, please bring a declaration from your insurance company, and make sure it is international. This way you are sure you don’t have any unnecessary costs when you have to go to the doctor or the pharmacy. It will make your life here a lot easier if it occurs that you get something.
Next up mosquito’s. Simply put, mosquito’s are everywhere. Now don’t be afraid of dengue or malaria immediately, since Bangalore is not a risk zone. But the mosquito’s still bite you, and walking around with a lot of mosquito’s bites is just irritating. Prevent this by bringing a impregnated (very important) mosquito net to get through the night, and deet to get through your day.
The party clothing and flip flops are important clothing pieces to bring with you. Why? You will visit some western orientated party places though. And in these places you absolutely do not want to walk around covered in clothes from top to toe. So to have a chill night, please bring your party clothes. This also counts for your flip flops. Although you will not be wearing them a lot In Bangalore itself, you are going to need them for the little trips your are probably going to make to warmer places.
To finish this topic, please bring a small first aid kit. When you wound yourself here, but it is not to serious, it is convenient to carry a first aid kit. Although the wound might not be that serious, the risk for infection in India is somewhat higher than in your home country. A plaster to cover the wound works miracles in these situations.
