Dress code at Christ University and businesses
At Christ university and in most businesses it is required to wear formal clothing. For men this means nice trousers and a nice shirt. Men, best advice is to buy your formals in India. For 50 euro's you will have two pairs of nice trousers, two nice shirts, a belt and matching shoes. The trousers will be made into your size which is included in the price. So don't take your expensive Dutch formals with you to India but buy some in India. Also recommended because the washing machine is not really trustworthy.
Women wear kurta's in India. A kurta is a long shirt that covers most of your body. The kurta hides the butt and most of your front. This will feel different in the beginning but later you will start liking it. Underneath the kurta you will wear matching pants. As shoes most of the girls wear flip-flops. Women can also wear sari's but sari’s are more traditional and most women wear kurta’s. As an example, the students at Christ University will wear kurta's and the teachers and staff will wear sari's.
Dress code free time
During the days you can wear your western clothing but there are a couple of adjustments you have to make. Cover up your legs entirely, especially women. Also it is advisable to cover up your shoulders and the rest of your upper body.
Nightlife
When spending some time in the nightlife of Bangalore you will notice that covering up suddenly is not necessary anymore. You will see girls in the shortest skirts on the highest heels, wearing tight dresses and showing skin. You can go all out with clothing when going into the nightlife of Bangalore.
Where to buy
The best place to buy your cheap formals is the Big Bazar. This shop is placed next to the forum mall which is close to Christ University. Here they have a wide variety of formal clothes and Kurta’sfor a cheap price.
If you want to buy some nice formal and non-formal clothes going to the Phoenix mall is recommended. The phoenix mall is a mall in the east of Bangalore. It is a longer ride but it is definitely worth visiting. At the Phoenix mall you will find 4 floors with all the mayor brands. You will find Tommy Hilfiger, Jack and Jones, G star Raw, Zara for men, Zara, Calvin Klein Jeans, Nike, Adidas, Puma, Cotton World and especially for girls the AND store. Also you will find a variety of stores selling Kurti’s and Sari’s, the prices are higher than at the Big Bazar but so is the quality.
